CARLOS TOWNSHIP, Minn. - A snowmobile r, initially reported to have suffered minor injuries after striking several trees, is in serious condition at North Memorial Hospital.

According to Douglas County authorities, 19-year-old Brian Tritz suffered more extensive injuries than what was first reported.

The accident happened when Tritz was headed northbound on Interlachen Drive on a 2002 Polaris 700 XCSP snowmobile in Carlos Township. Authorities say he failed to negotiate a curve before veering off into the woods striking several trees.

Neighbors provided medical attention until law enforcement, first responders, and the ambulance arrived.

Tritz was transported to Douglas County Hospital before he was airlifted to North Memorial.

The snowmobiler was wearing a helmet. Authorities say it appears speed was a factor in the crash.
