Dolman is facing 69 years

Post by bluegill on January 16th 2010, 8:56 am

I thought I had put something in here before about this topic. I couldn't find it, so here's the update part of it. I sure hope they throw away the key once he is locked up!~! One more freakin creep off the Montpelier streets!~! cheers That is one town that I will NEVER live in again. If I can get in the country around that area, that's a completely different story than living in town. I've been away from there for MANY years and refuse to go back there!~!

Photographs don’t lie, according to the 12 jurors in the trial of Alan D. Dolman of Montpelier.

Dolman, 43, was found guilty Thursday on all 13 felony counts leveled against him, including six second-degree felony charges of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance, and five more fifth-degree felonies of the same charge.

Dolman also was found guilty on two more counts of endangering children, both second-degree felonies.

He faces up to 69 years in prison.

“He has eight counts that are second-degree that he could get up to eight years each for,” said Williams County Prosecuting Attorney Tom Thompson. “And he has five counts (the fifth-degree felonies) that could carry up to 12 months each for a potential sentence of 69 years.”

Thompson presented five witnesses against Dolman, including Montpelier Police Officer Andrew Collert, Defiance County Deputy Steven Mueller, and three local juveniles.

The juvenile female victims, ages 11 and 8, took the stand against Dolman, as well as a young male who was the first to approach Collert for help with the case.

“I’m very proud of the fact that these two little girls got to tell their stories in court and had their voices heard,” Thompson said.

The evidence against Dolman included photographs, a Kodak C530 digital camera, Halloween costumes used to entice the girls and a Compaq computer on which the photos were stored.

Mueller, a computer forensics specialist, surmised the digital camera, seized during the execution of a search warrant, was the same camera that had taken 11 photographs depicting apparently juvenile females.

Six of the pictures were of the local victims, and depicted the girls in completely nude or partially nude states of dress while in either the bathroom or a bedroom at Dolman’s residence.

These six photos constitute six of the felonies, while five more photographs of apparently juvenile females not from this area — photos not taken by Dolman himself — comprise the fifth-degree counts.

The two remaining charges of endangering children were leveled against Dolman because he had “enticed or coerced” the girls to take part while knowing the material was of an obscene nature.

When the jury’s decision came down, Thompson expressed appreciation.

“I thought the evidence was overwhelming,” he said, “and I would like to indicate that we’re very appreciative of the Montpelier police and Steven Mueller of the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office.”

Judge Craig Roth ordered Dolman held at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio pending his sentencing, which is set for 2:45 p.m. Feb. 16.
